With the ups and down of contemporary Christian-Muslim relations, consolidation of relationships is a big deal among various Christian and Muslim circles. The quest for peace decries the who and the what but underlies the destination of effort. PROCMURA knows this only too well. Relations between Christians and Muslims in Sierra Leone have been known to be cordial, emphasis being laid on their coming together to bring peace to the nation during the civil impasse. However, these great strides have been marred by spastic uprisals in different parts of the country. As a result PROCMURA took it to cement the gains made rather than unravel the fabric of their relationship. On March 8th and 9th 2011, Christian and Muslim Leaders from Sierra Leone, came together in Freetown to address the issue of ‘Reconciliation and Peacebuilding in Sierra Leone’. Over 40 Leaders attended the Conference where salient issues were deliberated upon. As an outcome, the conference participants came up with a Communiqué which can be read in full below. The text of the Communiqué underlined some of the challenges being faced and the way forward for these challenges. Some of the unique highlights were the role of the youth in promoting peace and the importance of self-censorship. The final report will follow this report shortly, and we urge you to keep an eye out for the full details of the conference.
