50th Anniversary Celebrations

PROCMURA's 50th Anniversary Celebrations were held in Nairobi, Kenya, from 18th to 24th November 2009. The celebrations were a fuse of reflections and projections on PROCMURA's service in the continent.  The event drew participants from across the African continent, the Americas and Europe.

The Kenyan Vice President, His Excellency Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, was at hand to officially open the festivities of the 50th Anniversary. Also in attendance were several other dignitaries representing different institutions including the General Secretary of the All Africa Conference of Churches (AACC) Rev. Dr. André Karamaga, African President of the World Council of Churches (WCC) Rev. Dr. Simon Dossou, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics) of St. Paul’s University Prof. Esther Mombo, the Chairperson of the Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission (TJRC) of Kenya Amb. Dr. Bethwel Kiplagat and last but not least the European Liaison Committee Moderator, Prof. Dr. Klaus Hock.

The celebrations combined a myriad of events from lectures, panel discussions to a visit to a mosque. The events reflected PROCMURA’s areas of focus together with a restrategisation and sharing of experiences among the participants

In addition, the celebrations provided the opportune moment for the launch of the 50th Anniversary Book: PROCMURA at 50:1959-2009: Where we came from, Where we are today and Where we go from here.’  A collection of events and activities carried out by PROCMURA through the years in its different Area Committees across the African continent. The book which was edited by Rev. Dr. Johnson Mbillah, Dr. Sigvard Von Sicard and Dr. David Bone reflected the experience and know-how of past and present leadership.
