Togo still going strong after the Presidential Election
In an effort to embed peace in the West African Region, PROCMURA as a follow up to its West African Peace Conference in Accra, Ghana, organized a conference in Lomé, Togo. The theme of the conference was 'Christian and Muslim Religious Leaders together for Peace'. The two day event enabled Christian and Muslim leaders discuss contemporary issues rife among them. The aim was to identify contentious issues and discuss them openly and frankly.This was an important move given that the country had only just had her general elections where His Excellency Faure Gnassingbé became president of the republic.
In addition, the conference provided the leaders with an opportunity to delve into areas of cooperation and collaboration which could root peace and peaceful coexistence among adherents of the two faiths. It is this very vision that saw the participants of the conference come up with a communiqué dubbed the Lomé Communiqué. You can read the full text of the document using the link below.
