:: Christian-Muslim Marriages

One of the major subjects in Christian-Muslim relations for women is marriage between Christians and Muslims. In the general African situation, interfaith marriages, particularly those between Christian women and Muslim men are often fraught with difficulties. Some of the difficulties involved include a demand that the Christian woman changes her religion and becomes Muslim, or, if she chooses to remain Christian, loses the right to inheritance when the husband dies. In a situation where the woman sacrifices inheritance for the sake of her faith as a Christian, the children born thereof are required to be Muslim. These and many other issues involved in interfaith marriages between Christians and Muslims make it necessary to educate Christian women, especially the younger women, about the subject, so that those who may consider marriage across the religious divide to do so with an informed mind.
