As the one and only Programme of the churches in Africa that deals with the complex issues of Christian-Muslim relations, PROCMURA works with all the churches in Africa in spite of doctrinal differences, and relates with all the Muslim groups and organisations in Africa in spite of doctrinal or sectional differences.
To elaborate on this, PROCMURA, in spite of its Protestant roots has over the years evolved to become an organisation whose constituencies are made up of the historical churches (Catholic, Orthodox and Protestant), the Pentecostal Churches, and the African Independent Churches. What this means in the broader ecumenical sense is that PROCMURA works with the All Africa Conference of Churches (AACC) member churches, the Association of Evangelicals in Africa (AEA) member churches, the Organisation of African Instituted Churches (OAIC) member churches and the Pentecostal councils on the national levels. To push this into the world ecumenical arena, it means that PROCMURA constituencies are made up of member churches of the World Council of Churches (WCC), the Lutheran World Federation (LWF), the World Alliance of Reformed Churches (WARC), as well as churches that make up the Laussane Covenant. It also has very strong ties with the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue in Rome and has Catholics at its Central Office and grassroots levels playing many and varied roles in its decision-making process.
